I asked ChatGPT for an electrician. Here’s what happened

I asked ChatGPT to recommend a local electrician in Coventry.

As you can probably tell, I have a lot of free time. Do I need help? Yes šŸ‘

Anyway, it gave me four options, with the first couple being front and centre.

So I did a little digging. Nothing too fancy. Just a few tabs open, a study into their HTML, and a coffee that went cold.

Here’s what I found out about the businesses that actually got mentioned:

  • They had proper services pages and a services section in the homepage
  • They used language answers real consumer questions and queries
  • They were marked up with schemas that accurately described their businesses, services, and location
  • All of them had accurate, consistent contact information across the web

None of them ranked #1 on Google.

Even if they were, they’d only show up about tenth because of all the ads.

Ugh.

They didn’t have fancy website designs.

But they showed up.

They showed up because they answered the question in the right way.
